Abstract: | Over the past 25 years I have made an extended series of 'T-Shirt Paintings' in dozens of venues locations countries round the world in relation to various projects and contexts. They often engage in a dialogue with a particular site or timeframe. In this collection the author Michael Pederson invited me to make a series of T-Shirts for him and other collaborators to wear on the lengthy international launch tour for his most recent book Boy Friends and to publicise and celebrate the publication. In turn this project reflected on the themes at the core of the book, male friendship and the passion and drive of music, art and writing. This series of T-Shirt Paintings have been circulated, displayed and worn as a 'live artwork' in Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Galway, Dublin, Belfast, Hull, Coventry, Newquay, Faversham, Cardiff, in fact all across Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland and many international locations, including: Paris, Budapest, Helsinki, Turku, Tallinn, Toronto, Montreal, New York, Chicago, Harvard, Philadelphia and (soon) Tokyo and Kyoto. "In 2018 poet and author Michael Pedersen lost a cherished friend, Scott Hutchison, soon after their collective voyage into the landscape of the Scottish Highlands. Just weeks later, Michael began to write to him. As he confronts the bewildering process of grief, what starts as a love letter to one magical, coruscating human soon becomes a paean to all the gorgeous male friendships that have transformed his life. An intimate and original memoir of love, grief and male friendship by one of Scotland's brightest young talents" |
