Abstract: | 'Two-Sided Sculpture' is an attempt to picture the relationship between certain formal attributes of New Generation Sculpture and the networks of patronage on which the tendency relied. It poses the question, in a rather literal manner, of whether it is possible to apprehend both of these concerns at the same time. The logo for Sir Robert McAlpine appears on the rear surface of the work. This is the building firm which Alistair McAlpine, a prominent collector of sculpture of this kind, was a director. It was included in the exhibition 'Maquette' at No Show Space, London, which took as its starting point a maquette by the artist Jeremy Moon from 1973. This was paired with works by 39 other artists, and was curated by Robert Moon. Those artists include Roger Ackling, Florian Baudrexel, Eirini Boukla, Chloe Briggs, Clare Burnett, Louisa Chambers, Andrew Child, Neil Clements, Garth Evans, Alex Gibbs, Baptiste Gilloz, Sara Grisewood, Dean Hughes, Rodrigo Jáuregui Mena, Charlie Kater, Eri Kato, Gisoo Kim, Micah Lexier, Brandon Logan, Rachel Lowe, Sophie Mackfall, Laura Marotta, Bruce McLean, Jeremy Moon, Jane Morter, Matthew Peers, Rafael Pérez Evans, Jason Perrin, Heleen Redderhof, Scott Rogers, Nick Rubi, Sarah Ryder, Tim Scott, Richard Smith, Jane South, Ian Stepheson, Gillian Theobald, Richard Tuttle, Alice Walton and Andrea V Wright |
