Passions takes inspiration from Maud Sulter's book 'Passion; discourses on Blackwomen's creativity" (1990) Scottish-Ghanaian artist Maud Sulter (1960 - 2008) grew up in the Gorbals, Glasgow, and her work spanned across writing, image-making, curating, filmmaking, and sound.
PASSIONS publication brings together the contributions of nine Black artist-curators-makers based in Scotland or who have connections to Scotland, as they revisit and respond to Sulter’s important and influential publication "Passion; Discourses on Blackwomen’s Creativity".
My essay 'Twa Blak Wimmin, revisited' alludes to Sulter's work 'twa blak wimmin', and reflects on this and some of her other work, race, identity and art in Scotland.
