Abstract: | A multi-sensory workshop on the Glasgow School of Art Highlands and Islands campus utilising immersive experiential learning to creatively engage students in the cultures and history of ancient farming systems in Scotland, specifically focusing on the process of transhumance. Drawing on experience design methodologies to design sense-scapes (landscapes of taste, smell and the imagination), we aimed to immerse participants in the materiality, smells, tastes, and sights of the past and present surroundings of the Altyre Campus.

Additional Information: | This output led to the "Arctic Connections Virtual Seminar", a seminar with the University of Lapland and Glasgow School of Art Hi&I. Staff and Students from both organisations shared research centred around language, food and shelter as part of the Shielin-bough project (shielin-bough: exploring the intangible cultural heritage of food in the north through inter-cultural storytelling). This was a sharing of knowledge and cross-cultural dialogue between Scotland and Finland and forms part of building an international network of place-based practitioners with interest in the intangible cultural heritage of food, from cultivation and preparation to communal consumption.
