Abstract: | Sustainable design principles are often associated with one-off craft design where the designer-maker is in control of the entire process, or in mass-produced products where the economy of scale can produce large cost and environmental savings. The question lies in how to design small batch quantities of products following the three main tenets of sustainable design which 1) develop a social structure with 2) a sustainable economy that 3) maintains and protects the environment for current as well as future generations. In essence, how can we design products to help create local employment and work for local suppliers while using local resources that do not harm the environment now or in the future? | ||||
