This book, aimed primarily at the enthusiast market and written as a quid pro quo for the publisher producing my Jet Age Hotels book, explains how the Scottish bus industry achieved global success, there being three leading Scottish companies – the bus operators Stagecoach and FirstGroup and the coachbuilder Alexander Dennis – that have achieved international recognition with operations and sales spanning from North America through Europe to South East Asia and Australasia. For the first time, the story of the development of the industry from its nineteenth century origins to the present day is here recounted through text and over 170 illustrations. Particular emphasis is placed on the production by Alexander Dennis of environmentally-friendly hybrid, electric and hydrogen-fuelled buses, which enable efficient and cost-effective urban transportation with clean air for citizens.
The manuscript was read/peer-reviewed by two leading experts, Stewart J. Brown and Gavin Booth. It is fully referenced and with a comprehensive bibliography.
