Abstract: | An article about my sense of identity or subjectivity, as informed by my mixed background (as I was born in India, grew up in Canada, and have lived in Scotland for most of my adult life). The state of ‘in-betweenness’ is explored as a space that allows for positive reflection from within the margins of a dominant discourse, in terms of culture, language and belonging. The article weaves together childhood memories of Canada using prose narrative, alongside occasional snippets of poetry, which act as a reflective response to the progression of the narrative prose. It also draws upon my family history, as well as stories of transformation from Haida folklore. |
