A commissioned review of the 10th edition of Scotland's Africa-in-Motion festival, reflecting upon its local context and reception. Published online with Africa is a County: founded by Sean Jacobs in 2009, growing out of the blog Leo Africanus (2007-2009). It started as an outlet to challenge the received media wisdoms about Africa from a left perspective, informed by his experiences of resistance movements to Apartheid. Since then it has grown in size to include a larger geographic scope and, crucially, launched the careers of a number of young African and diaspora writers, scholars and artists. Today it features online commentary, original writing, media criticism, videos, audio, and photography, becoming one of the leading intellectual voices—particularly from the left—in the African online media sphere.
