“The listening is functional.

It took Stanley Kubrick three years experimenting, to realise he could not show extra-terrestrial life explicitly. When shooting of 2001 Space Odyssey was completed, he ordered key props and effects to be destroyed.

Playing with the format of the documentary and the atmosphere of Science Fiction, the film explores institutional and societal hierarchies of the spoken voice and how this alters perceptions of factual information, creating temporary fictitious spaces.

We journey through neural networks to the cadence of the synthetically gendered voice. These voices explain the ethics and philosophies of art conservation and the evolution of restoration from an empirical approach to a philosophical one; autobiography becomes deep learning. What happens to the archival image when it is removed or disconnected from its companion collection?

We can only look with subjective eyes.”
