Abstract: | Invited public lecture promoted by the Landscape Institute Scotland. The scope of the lecture covers the inherited landscape of Scotland and the legacy of Ian Lennox McHarg (and his masterwork 'Design with Nature'), Bill Gillespie (the founder of Gillespies) and Mark Turnbull (founder of Turnbull Jeffrey Partnership) and LI Gold Medallist 2017 as well as the content and concepts from 'Growing Awareness: How green consciousness can change perceptions and places' published in 2016. The concepts of the sublime and the picturesque as aesthetic constructs in landscape design are dealt with and the concept of the ecophilic landscape is introduced as a 21st century equivalent. | ||||||
