This videoed lecture was presented on the occasion of my solo show opening at Liverpool Hope University which consisted of works from 2007-2017. The talk is an overview of my entire career from 1990. From a critique of gestural painting as consumerist object via my stacked or 'cake' paintings, through various post 'cake' experiments where I attempted to re-discover whether painting was possible again (after it's so called 'death'), until now where I examine the relations between the exploratory act of creating paintings, their context and presentation and how that includes an awareness of the role of digital images.

Additionally,I include wider contextual concerns by introducing historical and contemporary artists that have influenced my thinking and development. I also offer autobiographical details to flesh out not only the kinds of social and artistic conditions that were available to me (such as the lack of London galleries and the need to instigate independent spaces and studios in the early 90's), but also the tools and entrepreneurial skills necessary to manoeuvre a career in the Fine Art through various stages of ones career.
