Abstract: | The paper summarised the history of "the slab" - prefabricated concrete slab buildings - in the context of new towns developments in the German Democratic Republic (1949-1989). It ended with an assessment of these buildings as a heritage, and at the same time a contemporary environment of daily life. | ||||||
