This book is one of the volumes in the Edinburgh University Press 'American Indies' book series - a series that is devoted to exploring the contours of American independent cinema of the last two decades. This book takes Todd Haynes' 2002 film 'Far From Heaven' - inspired by the films of Douglas Sirk - as its focus, and explores the film's reworking of elements of melodrama, its status as 'independent', its queerness, and its place in the output of Haynes.
