This is a book about the landscape and physical environment of our cities and regions today and tomorrow. It documents five years of research undertaken by the Central Scotland Green Network Trust through the annual CSGN Forum. Against a background of climate change, migration, health awareness and ever increasing urban intensification, it is timely to reflect on the role and the benefits of landscapes and ecosystems in our city regions.
The book contains fifteen essays by leading thinkers and practitioners assembled into three sections ‘Learning from Thought’, ‘Learning from Place’ and ‘Learning from Action’ that in some way reflect the manner in which those who work with and intervene in the landscape go about their work.
A short introduction ‘Understanding and reasoning the landscape’ opens the book and explains the context, and a final section – ‘Reflections’ – contains two essays: ‘Greening Central Scotland – Genesis, vision and delivery’; and ‘Towards a new paradigm in landscape and environment’ that draws the content together.
