Abstract: | This paper describes a study designed to elicit categories of interface metaphors that can be applied to voice-based automated mobile phone services. The effects of gender and previous computing experience on users' preferences for these metaphor categories were also investigated. The motivation for this work is the potential improvement in usability and performance that interface metaphors may have for voice user interfaces (VUIs). Especially if designed to accommodate for the individual differences of users. | ||||
