How might you utilize a research outputs repository to support wider institutional change? How can you develop a research planning tool that is embedded in researchers’ existing workflows, and support them in engaging with this change? The Glasgow School of Art’s RADAR repository has been customized to provide researchers with online access to an Annual Research Plan (ARP) template, part of an activity planning model that aims to balance teaching, research, consultancy, scholarly activity, and personal development appropriately. Keen to maximise high quality submissions to the next REF, the ARP should enable research time to be allocated more effectively, and RADAR is seen as an ideal support mechanism, having contributed to the REF2014 submission, and still being used by researchers to record and promote research outputs, ranging from books and journal articles to exhibitions and artefacts. In September 2015, EPrints Services were commissioned to build the ARP template into RADAR, based on a Microsoft Word document; following iterative testing, the ARP went live in January 2016, and is now being used by researchers to record details of research projects, planned outputs and impact, for example.
