Fashion Cultures is a new strand of the Merchant City Festival taking place in Glasgow from 24th July – 3rd August 2014, in association with Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and the retailers of Ingram St. It will take place in and around the retail and entertainment spaces on Ingram Street.

The programme will be a celebration of the role that fashion plays within the city of Glasgow and will recognise that fashion isn’t just an object or a retail experience but is a rich economy and culture that impacts upon all sectors of society. It will acknowledge the pleasure that people take in dressing up and going out, as well as the strong cultural ties that exist between fashion, music and art within the city.

The festival programme will move beyond a straightforward series of talks and retail events to include workshops, film screenings and performances all with the aim of providing an embodied approach to engagement with the programme that will appeal to a wide range of audiences.
