As part of a series of monthly profiles of European Schools of Architecture, this paper explores the ethos of the Mackintosh School of Architecture, its traditions and approach to architectural education as well as its attitude in addressing a fast-moving external professional and cultural landscape. It describes the School's 'roots and branches', its understanding of 'studio' as a physical place as well as activity and attitude to learning and its international ambitions and activities. It positions the School within an Art School culture within the UK and among other Schools of Architecture across a European educational landscape.
