Two international symposia both with specific remits to broaden the intellectual landscape surrounding the project to restore and repair the Glasgow School of Art Building , designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

The first, Building On: Mackintosh, Venice contributed to the Scotland + Venice contribution to the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale. The aim of the symposium was to identify the key cultural questions that the restoration project generated. This took place on 18th October 2014 at the Foundation Querini Stampalia, Venice.

The second, Building On: Mackintosh, Glasgow, took place on April 17th 2015 and took those questions raised in Venice and explored them further with the ambition to inform directly the actual build process and outcome and provide a public forum for the GSA to engage with the wider group of interested citizens. As well as international contributors, the event gave a platform for the newly-appointed architects Page/Park to articulate their approach to the project.
