Abstract: | The project consists of the comprehensive restoration, alteration and extension to a Victorian villa in a northerly suburb of Glasgow. The new design proposals address the issue of 'building on' a 21st century piece of building to a 19th century building by utilising the form and material of the existing roof scape to generate a new architectural language. Pitched and vertically-hung natural, second hand slate is employed in innovative ways to provide a seamless transition from one architectural era to another. The project is also distinguished by the interrogation of the client's brief collaboratively to build on a part of the site the clients had concluded was neither possible nor desirable. | ||||
