Abstract: | In this paper, I will read from some of the creative non-fiction pieces I wrote as part of my research and work on some of the forests of Scotland. These essays incorporate video and sound and I will include these visual and sound elements in my multi-media presentation, contextualizing my work in relation to the fact that Scotland’s trees, forests, landscapes in general, however ‘native’ and ‘natural’, they might appear, actually evidence the impact of humanity on this environment since the end of the last ice age. I will talk about my multi-disciplinary, multi-modal way of working, arguing for the value of a contemporary arts practice in its ability to provide alternative ways of encountering, experiencing and responding to the complexities of ‘nature’. | ||||
