This 20 minute paper was part of the 'Between Women Closing Event' with speakers Jenny Brownrigg, Alicia Bruce, Christian Noelle Charles, Yanru Dong, Lydia Heeley, Weitian Liu and Alistair Scott (21.2.25) at University of St Andrews. The event was organised by Dr Catherine Spencer and Vivian K Sheng, and was part of the 'Between Women', Travelling Gallery exhibition programme, again curated by Spencer and Sheng.

The paper focused on two solo shows I curated of Raffles (Observing Women at Work, 2017, Reid Gallery, GSA) and George (5 Florence St, Glasgow International, 2024), outlining curatorial methodology, in particular working with archival histories. This talk considered what Raffles and George’s archives- held in St Andrews Special Collections and Craigmillar Now respectively- can tell us about their aims and methods as social documentary feminist photographers and how curatorially these can be presented. In assessing who they chose to photograph, and the particular time the work was made in, I looked at the ongoing relevance and significance of their archival histories in contemporary art and society today.
