Ian Goncharov b. 1975
Goncharov graduated from Northumbria University in 1999 with a BA (hons) in Fine Art (Painting). After graduation, Goncharov worked as a teacher of art and design in a variety of educational settings, both formal and informal. His experience included gallery education, exhibition interpretation and work with schools and community groups at Baltic, the Centre for Contemporary, Northumbria University (MA Art and Education) Sunderland Museums and Winter Gardens, Queens Hall Hexham, NECA (North East Council for Addictions) and Creative Partnerships.
During this time Goncharov had a solo show of Painting at Gallery North and several group shows including Thermo4 at the Lowry in Salford and Place Called Home at Reg Vardy Gallery.

Goncharov studied on the MFA Art Practice at Goldsmiths College (2007 - 2009) and continued to work as a teacher in a local art school. On graduation Goncharov was awarded the Red Mansion residency in Beijing, The Wardens Purchase Prize and the Jealous Graduate Print Prize. He was also shortlisted for the Art Catlin Prize 2009.
In 2009 Goncharov moved to Moscow in the Russian federation and worked as a Lecturer in Art. He spent 3 years there and used his time to find a studio for the production of new work, curate a show of young British art for the yearly commercial fair Art Moscow, titled Translate/Transcribe, as well as validating and directing a BA (Hons) Fine Art course, the first course of its kind in the Russian Context.
On return to the UK in 2012, Goncharov worked at the University of Kent (School of Music and Fine Art) as a Lecturer in Painting and 1st Year lead until 2015. He then spent 2 years in Manchester and worked at Staffordshire University as a PT Lecturer in Art.
Recent Solo shows include Mr and Mrs Andrews at ASC in London and Float in a Mustard Tonic at Caustic Coastal Salford.
Goncharov is currently based in Edinburgh and is a lecturer in Painting at Glasgow School of Art. He is Director of Painting at the End of the World, a free floating curatorial organisation dedicated to contemporary painting.
