Biography

Jay is a Reader in Design Innovation within the School of Innovation and Technology. His research focuses on the design, development and evaluation of novel technologies and design innovation methods. He has previously worked across academia and industry designing, developing and evaluating novel technologies, including naturally speaking conversational agents, interactive spherical displays and multiplayer, educational computer games. Jay originally trained as a computer scientist and has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence. He is currently working on several projects with the Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre.

Recent high-impact projects include supporting the Scottish Government's Test and Protect response to the COVID-19 pandemic through the co-design of three new digital public health services used across Scotland: the National Notification Service (automated covid-19 results delivery); contact tracing tools for public health professionals and; citizen-facing contact tracing tools.
