New Edition was a group exhibition displaying newly-commissioned printed works by Museums Press (Jessica Higgins & Matthew Walkerdine), Poster Club (Anne-Marie Copestake, Charlie Hammond, Tom O’Sullivan, Ciara Phillips and Michael Stumpf) and Emer Tumilty. Curated by Sarah Lowndes, the exhibition was presented as the 50th anniversary exhibition of Edinburgh Printmakers during Edinburgh Art Festival 2017. The title of the exhibition underlines the generational group of all of the exhibiting artists, who were born between the late 1960s and the early 1980s and represent the current wave of Scotland-based artists working with print.

For the output, Higgins and Walkerdine produced 3 ambitious large-scale prints which were displayed on the gallery walls and bespoke table furniture. With their background in print and ephemera it was a natural choice to engage with the EPM archive of invites and documentation which spanned its 50-year existence. Taking cues from Weproductions (Telfer Stokes and Helen Douglas) and their photo-with-hand-embellishment techniques, the pair worked intuitively with photographs of EPM as their background but also plucking iconography and type as embellishment. Using colour and gloss inks, details were highlighted and hidden to create depth and moments of difference.

Museums Press were part of a discussion panel with the other artists to discuss the work and the ongoing existence and archive of Edinburgh Printmakers. A publication with a new reflection on the work by Sarah Lowndes was also produced and distributed internationally.
