At the launch of the Reading Landscape Fieldguide series, Dr Gina Wall and Dr Alex Hale presented an introduction to their collaboration, its history, the forms that their research takes and their key concerns as collaborative researchers. Wall and Hale have been working together for eight years and Fieldguide Number 2 Landscape as Archive, shares their insights around death, memory and belonging in northern landscapes through creative and collaborative publication practice. At the launch of the publication they discussed the significance of shared experiences of bereavement and the insights that this brought to working with the Bronze Age cist remains from the site on the Altyre Estate, where the GSA Highlands & Islands campus is located. Drawing on Baradian ethics, they acknowledge their entanglement and their respons-ability to the person who was extracted from the cist at Altyre in 1931 and through this publication they ask if it is time to rematriate these remains to their final resting place; to return the lightness of this being to the landscape in which they belong.
