The story of petrocultures cannot be told without oceans, which provided the right conditions for dead organic matter to settle and eventually transform into the material extracted as oil. This text explores a new perspective of petro-capitalism by engaging with its relations to aquatic systems, seen through the work of contemporary artists Agnieszka Brzeżańska and Rumiko Hagiwara.
