Abstract:

British fashion designer, Jean Muir (1928-1995), was highly successful internationally. This exhibition will introduce you to the distinctive designs and working methods of this leading designer.
Muir’s superlative cut and attention to detail led her to be called “the world’s greatest dressmaker". The female body was always at the core of her work. Muir saw technical excellence and craft skills as fundamental to making her ideas into successful garments. The Jean Muir Collection comprises around 18,000 objects and it was generously donated to National Museums Scotland in 2005. This collection is unrivalled globally in showing the entire workings of a fashion company.
