A series of debates were held during the 'Does Design Care ?' conference held in Chiba, Japan (07/19). Edited transcripts of these debates were published in a conference volume - 'Does Design Care... ?! head to head debates'. In my debate with Delfina Fantini Van Ditmar, we discussed the nature of science and design fictions and their relative efficacy related to designing for care. In conclusion, the binary question is rejected and a case is made for both types of fiction, with an understanding that they have different and complementary uses within the 'design of care'.
