In a post digital age of increasingly hybrid blended studio and online learning what is the place of making in a 21st Century Design School?

This short presentation sets out the strength of individual studio cultures at the Glasgow School of Art’s School of Design, recognising importance of a collaborative design community that can share expertise and move between disciplines to extend new knowledge. It follows a suggestive model as applied by Schön in the ‘reflective practitioner’(1983) and ‘Educating the Reflective Practitioner’, (1987) and considers the implicit values of studio based education in relation to design education and training.

In a world where the boundaries between the material and the immaterial are increasingly blurred and interwoven- the value of material and making has never been more critical or real.
