The Scottish Government has agreed that it is time to take action to tackle the growing prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) by publishing and providing funding to implement a new framework to prevent T2D developing, detect the condition early, and provide early intervention. NHS Tayside is one of three early adopter sites which are leading the way in implementing the Framework. Tayside has taken a public health transformation and design led approach to identifying the change needed to deliver whole system sustainable change. The Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) was commissioned by NHS Tayside to assist with the coproduction of new and improved diabetes services. Two initial scoping workshops with stakeholders from NHS Tayside identified opportunities to improve diabetes prevention, early detection, and intervention. Gestational Diabetes (GDM) was highlighted as a key area for change. Therefore, GDM formed a discreet piece of work looking at current service design and opportunities for improvement. This report details the key insights regarding the current GDM services.
