| Abstract: | The inter-war era witnessed the beginnings of major changes in public transport in Britain, brought about by technological advances and the development of leisure tourism. Electrified commuter railways, airports, motorcoach services, a new generation of trams and coastal pleasure steamers offered novel travel opportunities and experiences. To a greater or lesser extent, all of these emergent or updated transport modes embraced Art Deco and/or 'moderne' styling as a means of signalling their modernity, comfort and efficiency. |
