Abstract:

Tracing the impact of transgressive and subcultural style on the form of 'Little Black Dress' in the 1970s and 80s, this essay suggests that its changing silhouette and materials represent values associated with what Luc Boltanski & Eve Chiapello dub 'the new spirit in capitalism'.
