I've participated in two exhibits during Elements Festival of jewellery, silver and gold at Lyon and Turnbull 2017. The GSA Collective with colleagues Anna Gordon, Helen Marriott, Marianne Anderson, Silvia Weidenbach and Michael Pell. A showcase to promote the Silversmithing and Jewellery Department at The Glasgow School of Art. Five Graduates Andrew Fleming, Isla Christie, Aillie Anderson, Miki Asai and Adrienn Pesti also exhibited at Elements.

This year, two leading jewellery experts, curator and writer Amanda Game and designer and teacher Professor Dorothy Hogg MBE, have curated 50 Secrets of Magic Craftsmanship.

They have invited 50 artists and designers from around the world to contribute a work, or series of works, to the exhibition. Each artist has been invited on the basis of their ability to balance interesting ideas, skillful craftsmanship and a fresh and exciting approach to a wide range of materials and techniques.

Many works have never been shown in Edinburgh (or indeed the UK) and work spans generations, technologies and approaches. The exhibition will feature pieces from designers who trained in jewellery and have moved into different fields, including sculpture, luxury goods, and Japanese carving, and others who received early training in painting, sculpture and product design, who have been drawn to create works in this most intimate, and ancient of arts.

The curators hope that all who visit the exhibition will share their excitement about the imaginative possibilities of jewellery design in the 21st Century.

All works reveal qualities inherent in the chosen title, taken from a book of that name published in the 1940s by Salvador Dali. 50 Secrets of Magic Craftsmanship will offer insight and encouragement to all designers who practice in this area in Scotland and beyond.
