Abstract:

During the 1960s and 1970s Glasgow was viewed by many in the outside world as little more than a post-industrial city. However, the situation was to change dramatically in the mid-1980s with a conscious move by Glasgow City Council to focus on urban regeneration, in part, through the use of arts and culture, as personified by the likes of Barcelona and Chicago. The past two decades have in particular been hugely successful for Glasgow and the city's artistic and cultural resurgence shows little sign of diminishing.
