Abstract:

This paper considers how the academy helps define and prepare students of architecture for future practice

The author as practictioner considers the situating of their architectural practice as one located within the academy, and that academy to be the locus for research as a practitioner. The paper attempts to explore that practice, which is complex and dynamic with many actors, cultures and differing values, to understand the explicit and tacit values it promotes and to consider if and how that the academy can acts the springboard to future practice.
