Research Profile
Mariangela is a qualified architect by the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE-TCG), graduated with a Diploma in Architectural Engineering from Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). She also holds an MSc in Environmental Design of Buildings by the Welsh School of Architecture (Cardiff University). As a freelance Architectural Engineer Consultant, she led the architectural design and master planning of residential buildings of the private sector. As a teacher in the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering of Loughborough University, she taught Architectural Design to the Architectural Engineering and Design Management (AEDM) BSc students.

Her research interests provide a link between architecture, sustainability, and construction management, and she has published conference and journal papers in these fields. For her MSc dissertation, entitled “Accuracy of the LT Method Shading Factors through Comparison to Models Simulated in Ecotect”, she created simple models in complex software (i.e. Ecotect, Radiance, and Daysim) in order to evaluate the accuracy of a simpler method (LT) that is used as a means for making informed decisions about the design of a building at an early stage. Her PhD project, entitled “Communication of Sustainability Information and Assessment within BIM-enabled Collaborative Environment”, explored the managerial issues of the multidisciplinary sustainable building design process. As a result, she developed a standardised approach for integrating environmental design considerations within Building Information Modelling (BIM) multidisciplinary workflows. As a KTP Research Associate at Cartwright Pickard Architects, she investigates how a 7D BIM project can be delivered. The project focuses on the Private Rental Sector market, aiming to improve the accuracy of whole-life costs’ predictions and in-use performance.
